«Omnia» is Latin, meaning everything or all-embracing. The Zermatt hotel, which opened lately, aims to make its guests feel as comfortable as they would at home. The small but very refined house offers an exclusive interior decor, a fabulous view of the Matterhorn and a comprehensive range of wellness services.

Ruckstuhl’s carpets are the perfect match for the timeless design and the natural materials and colours favoured by the hotel. They speak the same design idiom, and harmonise with the carefully selected furniture.

Anthracite grey fitted carpets of the pure wool / felt quality Feltro Basic were used for the bedrooms. This felt material creates a comfortable atmosphere without being unduly lavish. The corridors are laid with the coconut brush carpet Porta, likewise in anthracite: something of a surprise on the one hand – who expects to find brush matting in a corridor? – and on the other a suitably robust floor covering and thoroughly dirt-resistant. The carpet quality Trap, consisting of pure wool and hair yarn with a discreet structure, has been integrated with the parquet floor of the restaurant.

Design and Architecture. The Omnia is the contemporary interpretation of thetraditional mountain lodge. Here in the Swiss Alps, the mountain lodge, a quintessentially American concept, has been reinvented for its European environment by the New York based architect Ali Tayar. This dialogue between two cultures was the starting point for the design. While the materials and the craftmanship reflect the tradition of the Valais, the furnitures are inspired by a warm, handcrafted modernism.

This era in 20th century design is revisited in The Omnia in the works of a group of European born, American designers whose European roots heavily influenced the American scene. They include Mies van der Rohe, Raymon Loewy, Vladimir Kagan and Eero Saarinen. Their works are complemented by USM Modular Furniture, which is recognized as a design classic in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Most of the interior furnishing and fittings are custom-made designs of Ali Tayar, conceived to meet the requirements of the mountain lodge.

This subtle interplay between design classics and custom-made pieces underscores the basic concept of the mountain lodge – The Omnia is the fusion of a multitude of different elements and influences to make a single harmonious whole.

furnishings, 12 of them suites. The wellness facilities include various baths, a sauna, rest rooms and a fitness centre. Guests can also book massage sessions or lessons in yoga and Pilates.
